Henry the Frog

I once had an unnamed frog
I watched him all day on his log
He sat and he sat
He swam and he swam
But something is up with him

“Why!” I exclaimed to no one at all
“I just want a friend” he croaked
Shocked and afraid I took his advice

I then had two unnamed frogs
I watched them all day on their log
I loved them with all of my heart
But something seemed up with number one

The next few weeks passed like a dream
I could hear wedding bells them both
But the next day to my shock and dismay
I found number two belly up

“Why!” I exclaimed to no one at all
“I just want a friend” number one croaked
Still shocked and afraid I took his advice

I again had two unnamed frogs
I still watched them all day on their log
I still loved them with all of my heart
Yet something was still up with number one

The next couple week passed in a blur
Of frog food and a ribbiting purr
Just a day later number three was gone

“Why!” I still exclaimed to no one at all
“I just want a friend” number one croaked
Still shocked but unafraid I took his advice

I then had an unnamed frog and a beta
“Beta’s are tough” I said to myself
He will stay with us for sure.

A week later I ate my words
“A Beta, Realy?!” I said to my frog
“I only want a friend!” exclaimed number one
“No more friends for you” I replied

I then decided to name my frog
A name to fit his crime
I thought and I thought
Finally I named him Henry

“Henry” I exclaimed
Just like Henry VIII
He killed his wives
Just like you

I have a named frog
I watch him all day on his log
He sits and he sits
He swims and he swims
And nothing is up with him

Haha! Well I never expected Spouse murder to come in to the competition, but here we are and I liked it alot! Lets hope it wasn’t an honour killing.

I love the atmosphere in this poem – I feel like I could imagine what it would like to be a frog now – probably not a healthy attribute! AND THE PICTURE IS GORGEOUS! Such detail, must have taken you ages Grace, its beautiful!

Absolute GENIUS of an entry. I’m seriously considering making one myself. Perhaps in a crazy colour! Really inspiring.

I wish I could give everyone big fat juicy prizes for being so AMAZING and committing so much time to the frog kingdom!

So I broke. Just once, but once is enough.

It is human nature to disobey yourself. And me, being me, forgot for a second that although I am many things, I am not SUPERHUMAN.

I bought a dress from Dorothy Perkins.

It was stupid, it was irrational, it was against my moral code.

But boy is it pretty.

I know this has a jokey tone, but I was genuinely disapointed in my self for several days before I would even let myself enjoy this dress. My only comfort is that it is from their label ‘Doll & Frog’ who are a group of recent fashion graduates just starting out. So I guess I’m supporting them at least. They do deserve it, it IS beautiful.

I was just having a blissful day in with my portable boyfriend, who is here to visit for the week. I came over all housewifey, dressed like this, cleaned the bathroom, kitchen and peeled potatoes while listening to the Singin In The Rain soundtrack! ….while he watched the football.

note to self: refind the feminist within me before its too late.

So, in the interests of recycling, and not at all because we nurse an unhealthy obsession for the blogging world and it’s soldiers, we bought some second hand dresses from Mademoiselle Robot. Mine was this gorgeous cotton madame that makes me feel as if I am one of the Von-Traps.

I find this post bitter sweet in its execution, because while I am fairly happy with the way it turned out, and really like my wardrobe… well, the thing is, I live right beside a harbour! And I know this shoot would have been so freaking EXCELLENT out there.

But as long as I am a blog fraidy cat, I really cannot bring myself to take pictures in public. I did it in the wilderness that time (insert a thats what she said joke here), but really even then I was on edge like the mystery machine could drive up at any second and expose me as a narcissist. I’m just to embarrassed.

Hattie likes to take them for me sometime and I love her for it, but we are busy women living at opposing ends of the seashore, so if anyone lives in Aber, actually reads this crummy crap and doesn’t see this blog as a complete extension of my own vanity and self involvement(a point which I am not completely devoid of agreement with myself), then you know, let me know if you want to have some fun taking pictures!

Today was a simple day. All I really think about wearing was my big baggy new £1 2nd hand t-shirt.

But wait.

I have work.

Out pops one of my probably most underestimated wardrobe weapons, my dry-clean-only Oasis wonder.

So very Channel-esque, perfect for drawing attention away from (or failing that juxtapositioning) un-brushed hair, messy eyebrows and a massive cake hangover. Yes, they are real.

I’ve been a woman in training long enough now to have had a sizeable history with handbags.

Each that has gone after the one before  is closely critiqued for its improved style, excess room or superior hanging facets – it’s ability to collapse, clasp, zip, snip,shoulder-sling  and cradle a book collection far too vast for transport in normal circumstances (circumstances and logic are two things I have really never been a slave to…). I thought the only improvement my last bag could have afforded me was a built in coffee machine and automatic zip release. She was not be to be bettered.

Until last week.

I was browsing the Aberystwyth boutiques in innocence – if it had been a clubbing scene, I would have been the fresher just absorbing the potential partners around me, not particularly looking for anyone special, certainly not looking for a lay or least of all an orgy (in this strange, winding and ultimately disturbing unplanned annalygy, you can call an ‘orgy’ an extremely over productive shopping trip).

And suddenly the whole world, despite any reluctance felt on my part previous to that moment, turned very hollywood. Our eyes met, we ran through fields of gold straw and the edges on the screens of life began to get awfully blurry.

We fell in love.

Her price was an extortion by my wallets standards, but my heart insisted that absence would most definitely NOT make it stronger and in the end my anatomy was unanimous as I handed over my debit card.

I do work two jobs after all.

Ok, now I have got all the constipated literary rot out of my head, could I interest you in some facts?

It was from Polly’s in Aber, the most beautiful of boutiques ever to grace the British Isles. It is made by a company called Disaster Designs who’s whole collection, you must trust, is breathtaking.

It’s huge enough inside for all my crap, my laptop and the welsh student’s essential - a waterproof. Its also celtic-weatherproof, which will be excellent for all my unproventable wanderings to campus in the rain. Its also slouchy enough to be practical when it’s almost empty and had TWO strap options for ultra fussy people like me.

Thats enough from me. I’m going to go and do something much more intellectually appropriate for my IQ than sit around and write meaningless blogs about cleverly affixed cloth.

Or I might just sleep.

So I’m due somewhere extra important soon, but I feel like there’s always a moment to salute a new necklace into the pack.

She was rescued from Dorothy Perkins this week, having been majorly slated by her former possessors – the price for her heart was a measly £3, after glories days of being displayed at £15.

Anyway, she’s much happier in  her new home – so happy even, she told me yesterday, there are days where she forgets how irresponsibly traded her beads are and how her life probably started in a Taiwanese Sweat Shop (her subconscious blots out memories before the shop floor – too painful).

She says she’s glad I managed to compromise my shopping morals long enough for me to rescue her from the jewellery section.
